General Questions

I just received my laptop and I can not find the user manual. Where is the manual located?
All our products have switched to electronic version of user's manual which is saved on the desktop in PDF format named User’s Guide (in some cases)

Why I did not receive any Windows Installation CD or Recovery CD?

We don't ship recovery CD or the Windows Installation CD, but we do have a recovery partition in the hard drive. To activate it, tap on F4 key when powering up. You should have a READ ME FIRST paper in your shipment.


Power

My Computer is not turning on, what should I do?

Take off the battery from the computer and plug-in the AC adapter, and try to turn on the computer again. If your system still unstable to switch on, please contact GammaTech Tech support at 510-824-6746.


Battery

My battery is fully charged, but it will only last about 1 hour when I unplug the AC adapter from my computer. How can I improve the duration of my battery life?
Please perform Battery Auto Learning. The battery auto learning can be located in the BIOS. To enter the BIOS, push and hold the DEL key as soon as your switch on your computer, then go to the ADVANCED option and under the advanced option select Battery Auto learning and hit Enter and follow the on-screen instruction.


Keyboard

My keyboard is defective; when I try to type the letter “L” it will show a 3 instead. What should I do?
Please make sure the number lock is not enabled. To disable the number lock, hold the Fn key and then push the NumLock key at the same time.


Audio

I just received my computer, but for some reason there is no audio. Is there something I am doing wrong?
There is a hardware volume control located on your computer, please refer to your user manual for more details.


USB Connections

Why my system is telling me the USB 2.0 device is not working properly?
First make sure all USB devices are connected to the system, and then restart the computer and push the "DEL" key at the post screen. Enter BIOS and move the tap to the Exit option and select "LOAD OPTIMAL DEFAULT" then hit enter, save the changes and exit. This action should fix most USB devices related issue.


Wireless Connections

How do I connect to the internet wirelessly?
Please make sure the wireless switch is turn on. In most cases the wireless switch can be located next to the ON/OFF button, and next configure the wireless router to work with the Durabook computer. For additional information on how to configure the router, please refer to the router’s user manual.


Optical Drive Disk

How do I burn a CD or DVD?
Please go to the Start manual then click on all programs, and double click on the CyberLink Power2GO application. Next follow the on screen instruction or refer to www.cyberlink.com for more details.

I inserted a DVD movie into my computer but nothing is happening, what should I do?
Please go to the Start manual then click on all programs, and double click on the Cyberlink PowerDVD application. You can click play when the control panel appears.

My optical drive is making a loud noise after I inserted a CD disc into the drive. What should I do?
Normally the noise is caused by a bad quality CD disc, the disc itself should still be working, but it might not be completely flat so it will cause the disc to spin abnormally in the optical drive.

Where can I find the serial number of my computer?
The serial number should start with the letter SY and it is located on the bottom of the computer.


LCD Screen

How can I adjust the DIM other than the function key?
To adjust the DIM other than the Function key, please go into control panel and double click the "display" icon. Next select the "settings" tap on the top and click the advance button, in the next window select "Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Driver" tap and click the Graphics Properties option and than select the "color" tap in the next window. It will give the option to adjust the Gamma, Brightness and contrast.

Firstware Recovery Pro FAQ

My computer is no longer working properly, or my computer is infected with a virus. How do I restore my computer back to the original configuration?
The Firstware recovery function is located on a special partition which invisible from windows platform. To access it, first shutdown the laptop; then press the power button and the F4 key at the same time to activate PHOENIX RECOVERY function. This should restore all the settings back to original condition when it was shipped out. IMPORTANT: PLEASE BACK UP ALL YOUR FILES BEFORE RECOVERY AS IT WILL WIPE OUT ALL FILES THAT YOU CREATED SINCE YOU RECEIVED THE LAPTOP.


Vista FAQ

What does it mean by Windows Vista Capable?
Computers with the Windows Vista Capable sticker, should be fully compatible with Windows Vista Home Basic, however depending on the spec of the laptop, it might not display some interface correctly.

Is my computer capable of running Windows Vista Home Basic?
Please see if your Windows XP-based PC can run Windows Vista. Just download, install, and run the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor.

Can I upgrade my computer to Windows Vista?
Yes, but you will need to make sure your specification of your computer is capable of running Windows Vista and the applications in your system are able to run in the Windows Vista environment.

If I upgrade to Windows Vista, can I restore my system back to Windows XP?
No, after you upgrade your system from Windows XP to Vista, you will not able to restore the system back to the manufacturer configuration and the recovery function will be erased.

Will I need to upgrade my computer in order to run Windows Vista?
Some computer components such as hard disk drive and memory are upgradeable, and we highly recommend users to upgrade these components and benefit the breakthrough user experience from Windows Vista.

Can I upgrade my video card in my laptop? Since Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor is suggesting the video card installed in my computer is not compatible with Vista Aero.
Video card in laptop computers generally are not upgradeable, if Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor suggested you to upgrade the video card in your system, this message might only applicable to desktop computers.

How do I activate Windows Vista?
1) At any time during initial 15 days of operation, you can activate the VISTA OS by simply:

a) For Online Activation: Click on Start Button (located at the lower left corner), and then choose Control Panel. In Control Panel, (look at the left side of the window) click on “Classic View” (a white “bullet“ indicates current selection). In Classic View, look for “System” icon and double-click. Then click on "Activate Windows now" link found at the bottom of System window.

Windows Activation window will appear. Click on “Type a different product key” and enter the Vista Product Key. (Note: Your product key is located at the bottom of the laptop and printed on Microsoft Certificate of Authenticity sticker.) Then click “Next.” The Vista activation is now completed.

If you were not online during this activation process you will be asked to activate either by phone or modem. Please click on “Show Me Other Ways To Activate” and follow the onscreen instructions for either process.

2) After the initial 15 days of operation, if you have not already activated the Vista Operating System, a "Windows Activation" pop-up screen will appear. At this time, you must activate the Operating System. This activation can be completed by either:

a) Phone - click "Show me other ways to activate", and choose "Use the automated phone system" (this is the easiest method and recommend to all users).

b) Online - click "Activate Windows online now" (your computer must be connected to the Internet to use this method).

c) Modem - click "Show me other ways to activate", and choose "Use my modem to connect directly to the activation service" (modem port is located on the left side of the system.) The computer must be connected to the phone line via the modem to use this method.
